Humans are created as the vicegerents of Allah, but our vehicle in this world is nothing more than a highly evolved primate. We have long been separated from the natural world, and do not recognize natural process when we see it. We subdue, manipulate, and enslave all other life. We create industrial wastelands from what were natural ecosystems and cannot understand why life on this planet is dying. The primate vehicle we live within is no longer even mammalian, in that mammals do not ruin their indigenous environment; it is a dwelling place of malignant demons. Now, as civilization collapses under the weight of endless expansion, our species becomes even more obsessed with our perceived suffering and our needs (real and imagined). We learned nothing from centuries of egocentric mistakes. Technological and economic manipulation will not help us. Political ideology or militaristic jingoism will not help us. Mindless religious / "spiritual" ritualism and institutions that produce no real spiritual result will not help us.
The sensualist and empirical thought that has dominated so-called "western" civilization has reduced reality to the world experienced by the external senses and limited the meaning of reality. This removed the concept of Divinity from reality and relegated it to the status in our society as abstract and unreal. Metaphysical knowledge (the balance between intellection and revelation) has been cut off. Modern humans do not possess an adequate doctrine of God / Allah as Absolute Reality; and exposure to these ideas is largely incomprehensible to them as anything other than some diluted new age "self-help" entertainment. This also deprived us of the capacity to understand relativity as a veil (or, in Islamic terms, "al-hijab"). When humans remove from Allah the attribute of Absolute Reality, they also fail to see the world perceived through the external senses as only a partial reality.
Which points to the only solution, mastery of the self. Replacing arrogance, hubris, and insanity with critical thinking and humility is a good first step. But there is more. The exaltation of Allah as the Supreme Being does not (as those either mired in atheism or damaged by religious fundamentalism would have us believe) reduce the dignity and station of the human being; it enlightens and ennobles it and increases its station. This is accomplished by the submission / harmonizing / aligning of one's with and being with the Supreme Will / Being. Allah, far from being the "tribal god" many westerners (and even easterners - though they are unaware that they think this), is the Ultimate Reality; the metaphysical All-Possibility (in that within Allah are all possibilities). This Divine Infinity is essential to an adequate doctrine of the knowable nature of Allah. This opens the mind, heart, and spirit of the human being to a unity of this trinity within us (the so called "holy trinity" never was and can never be the essence of God; it is the essence of creation) that transcends the limitations of these components in their separate state.
Thus, once one weds the training to master the world perceived by the external senses (i.e., traditional science, or even simply learning a trade) to the training necessary to master metaphysics which also encompasses moral and spiritual considerations, then the conflicts and contradiction that drive humanity to the mass suicide we see happening around us will have been diverted. In its most sublime state, the differences between religion, science, philosophy, metaphysics, and the arts will cease to exist, and will form a catalyst greater than the sum of its parts that will propel humanity to a higher, and more evolved state of being.
This idea is incomprehensible to those who measure human life by market value, and to those who believe Islam is just another "organized religion." Further explanations along these lines to such people will be futile.
