The Totalitarian Nature of Social Media

Social media is (at least potentially) a totalitarian critique of one's personal psychology and position in society.

It is not unlike the political re-education programs of communist China wherein all one's personal "defects" are "confessed" in the environment of political theater. Only this time, people are judged in terms of commercial market value as opposed to statist political orthodoxy. The latter is invoked only with those who correctly identify the nature of the crimes against humanity being perpetrated by the corporate world order.

There is also the phenomenon of “Cancel Culture.” This is not new; it’s been done for centuries. The only difference is the use of internet technology. The motive and method have always been the same: banishment. And the most ridiculous irony is that those who most fervently employ this are the ones who most fervently believe themselves to be tolerant, enlightened, and progressive.
