Host: Welcome! Thank you for joining us
Hendrix: Yeah, this is really outta sight. I been away a long time. Let’s hear what people been doing. And this,,, what did you call it? Laptop? I’m anxious to see what it can do.
Host: It can do a lot. Anyway, this is a song called 1 Night by Lil Yachty.
Hendrix: “Lil Yachty?” [laughs] Where did he get that name? What kinda stuff does he do?
Host: It’s his rapper name. He does what’s called Mumble Rap.
Hendrix: Mumble rap? [looks confused]
Host: Let’s give it a listen. [starts the recording]
Hendrix: [listening] Damn,,, what was that?
Host: It’s a synthesizer. Didn’t you have an early Moog synthesizer at Electric Lady?
Hendrix: Yeah,,, I never got a chance to really play it. Hmmm, now they’re playing a few chords on a Rhodes. Cool syncopation,,, Is that a synthesizer too? It don’t sound like any instrument I heard before. And this guy,,, what’s his name again?
Host: Lil Yachty.
Hendrix: [laughs] Yeah, that’s right. Oh shit,,, he’s trying to sing.
Host: What do you think so far?
Hendrix: He’s pretty damned awful! I don’t like stepping on anyone’s toes, but this guy’s a worse singer than me!
Host: That’s how he sings.
Hendrix: [shakes his head] Man, I seen junkies in Harlem with more energy than this cat! Is he a junkie?
Host: I don’t know. I don’t think so.
Hendrix: Man, you people must have some really weird drugs. So, he’s mumbling or singing or something,,, Wait,,, who’s playing drums?
Host: That’s not drums, it’s a computer. I think all the instruments are programmed in a computer.
Hendrix: And that’s the best they can do?
Host: Well,,,
Hendrix: [listening] This must be the bridge. Not much to it,,, and it goes back to the same old thing.
Host: So, what did you think?
Hendrix: Dig, I was waiting for something cool to happen. You know, some real life thing that would make a statement and take me somewhere. There were a few bits of groovy things happening with some sounds, the synthesizers playing in the background. And the ending was interesting. But it just kinda went nowhere. And Little Naughty just kept mumbling the same words about getting his groove on for one night.
Host: You didn’t like it?
Hendrix: I’m not trying to bring anybody else’s scene down. But,,, I guess I was expecting something else, you dig?
Host: There’s a lot of music in the 21st century I’m sure you would like.
Hendrix: Yeah, I hope so! [laughs. Takes a joint out of his pocket and lights it] So, they legalized it, huh?
